Mission-Critical Case Management

TrueTandem developed and supports the IRS Integrated Management System (IMS), a robust case management application enhancing efficiency in taxpayer compliance reviews. With ~5,000 users and over 21 million documents, IMS enables seamless collaboration across IRS business units for both rapid and extended audits. Built on a custom .NET architecture, IMS incorporates data synchronization, secure integration, and role-based access to protect sensitive data while streamlining IRS workflows.

TrueTandem has held contracts on IMS for 14 consecutive years, highlighting our ability to understand what is important in applications development, including customer relationships, getting requirements right, and building/integrating products correctly.

The original business need was a system to manage taxpayer examination (audit) that needed to be incredibly detail oriented, flexible, team based, and could be used in both connected and disconnected mode. The system is considered mission critical requiring 24/7/365 availability.  To meet the needs of the IRS, TrueTandem worked to develop Issue Management System (IMS), a comprehensive collection of 4 systems containing both custom and COTS based functionality. The initial system was developed in 2006 and deployed in 2008. Subsequent years continued to add sub-systems and functionality including the conversion of the application into a software platform useable by multiple business groups and COTS based data warehouse reporting capabilities. As of May 2020, IMS is used by approximately 5,000 users across the LBI, SBSE, and Appeals operating divisions. There are in excess of 75,000 open examinations and 420,000 closed examinations as well as over 13-million system integrated Office and PDF documents. TrueTandem has worked hand in hand with stakeholders, developed and supports four unique IMS systems, dedicates team members for IMS helpdesk, and closely manages all federal compliance.
